Terms and Conditions
Simple rules for using a free backgammon site fairly. By using the site, you agree to them.
The service
Free Backgammon lets you play backgammon in your browser against a computer, against a friend in a private room or with two players on one device, and read about the rules. It is free to use, needs no account and offers no prizes. Who runs the site is explained on the about page.
Acceptable use
Please use the site the way it is meant to be used. You must not:
- Use the site, or results of games on it, to arrange or settle gambling or wagers.
- Choose a display name that is abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, impersonates someone else or contains someone else’s personal details.
- Try to break, overload or get around the protections of the site or the room service. That includes automated room creation, flooding requests, probing for other people’s rooms and tampering with seat cookies.
- Scrape, copy or mirror the site in bulk, or use automated tools to play in other people’s rooms.
- Use the site in a way that breaks the law or harms other people.
We may close rooms, block access or remove content that breaks these rules.
Private rooms and invite links
- A room has two seats. Anyone with the invite link can take the empty seat, so share it only with the person you want to play.
- Your seat is tied to the browser you used to create or join the room. Clearing cookies or switching device loses the seat.
- Rooms are removed after 24 hours without game activity. A finished or expired room cannot be reopened.
- Leaving a room does not concede the game. Use Resign to end a game early.
Intellectual property
Backgammon itself is a traditional game and belongs to no one. The site’s text, guides, printable sheet, board artwork, design and software belong to the site’s operator and are protected by copyright.
You may print the printable rules sheet and share it for personal, classroom or club use, without changes and with its source shown. You may link to any page. Please ask before republishing our text or images elsewhere.
Links to other sites
Pages may mention or link to other websites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, policies or availability. A link is not an endorsement.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep the site running and the rules engine correct, but the site is provided free and “as is”. It may be unavailable at times, features may change or be removed, and a room or game in progress may be lost if the service is interrupted. Saved games depend on your browser storage, which your browser or you can clear at any time.
Limits of responsibility
To the extent the law allows, the site’s operator is not liable for any loss arising from the use of, or inability to use, the site, including lost games, lost history or decisions made based on game results or the rules guide. See the disclaimer for what the site does and does not claim.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that cannot be excluded under the law that applies to you.
Your responsibilities
- Keep your invite links to people you choose to play with.
- Supervise children who use the site, as you would with any online service.
- Remember that History lives only in your browser and cannot be restored if browser data is cleared.
- Tell us about bugs or security problems you find, rather than exploiting them.
Privacy
How the site handles data is explained in the privacy policy and the cookie policy.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the site changes. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest version. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
